1985, ich war gerade ins 2. Lehrjahr gekommen, gab ich das meiste Geld meiner Ausbildungsvergütung bei „Tractor“ in der Eppendorfer Landstrasse aus. Das war damals DER Plattenladen für DJ´s. Und an einem schönen Sommertag kam ich in das Geschäft und der Inhaber begrüßte mich mit „Lars, ich habe gerade den Sommerhit für Dich aus London bekommen“. Er gab mir eine schwarze Maxi-Single mit einem gemalten Gesicht darauf welches eine rote Brille trug. „Monney´s too tight to mention“ stand darauf. Ich legte den UK-Import auf den Technics Plattenspieler… und es war um mich geschehen! Seit diesem Moment liebe ich Simply Red! Als ich 1988 zum ersten Mal dann selbst in einem Club auflegte, war „Jericho“ mein erster Song den ich spielte. Mir war klar, dass ich in diesem für mich sehr besonderen Moment einen Simply Red Song spielen musste.
Simply Red in einem Club zu spielen, muss für die heutige Generation merkwürdig klingen. Schon lange ist Mick Hucknall und seine Combo viel mehr für Balladen und melodiöse Arrangements bekannt. So ändert sich die Zeit. Und so hat sich auch die Band verändert. Und so habe auch ich mich verändert. Simply Red ist an meiner Seite geblieben und begleitet mich nun schon seit 30 Jahren treu durch mein Leben.
Heute ist nun das neue Album erschienen. Sie waren sehr lange weg! Nach acht Jahren (!) gibt es jetzt endlich wieder 12 neue Songs! Und während ich diesen Beitrag schreibe, ertönt das Album aus meinen Lautsprechern. iTunes sei Dank! Und das was ich bis jetzt höre (bin gerade bei Track 8) begeistert mich. Bis jetzt fand ich alle Songs großartig! Und das ist nicht selbstverständlich, denn auch jede „Lieblingsband“ hat die ein oder andere Gurke auf seinen Alben. Das ist bei Simply Red nicht anders. Aber bis jetzt bin ich begeistert!
Also wer von Euch mich heute antrifft und sich wundert warum ich so ein zufriedenes Lächeln im Gesicht habe obwohl der HSV gestern nur 1:1 gespielt hat, der weiß jetzt warum. Und die nächsten Wochen sollte man am besten nicht mit mir im Auto fahren wenn man Simply Red nicht mag. Ich habe nie behauptet dass ich gut singen kann, aber im Auto zusammen mit Mick kann ich für nichts garantieren 🙂
